Carpet installation
Out with the tired carpet, in with a floor that is measured, stretched and finished properly. We handle the whole change — from the first measurement to the last door bar.
Clean or replace?
Because we also clean carpets, we have no reason to push a replacement. Here is how we decide together.
Choosing carpet
We bring samples to the measuring visit so you can see them in your own light. These are the main constructions and where each one works best.
Twist, saxony and velvet. The yarn loops are cut to create a soft, dense surface. Twist pile is the most forgiving for family rooms because it hides footprints; saxony feels luxurious in bedrooms; velvet looks elegant but shows marks easily.
Best for: bedrooms, living rooms, family spaces.
Berber and level loop. The yarn is left in uncut loops, giving a hard-wearing, textured surface that resists crushing. Avoid in homes with cats or dogs that like to scratch — claws can snag loops.
Best for: hallways, stairs (with care), studies, offices.
Patterned texture. A combination of cut and looped yarns creates subtle patterns. It disguises soil well and adds interest without colour.
Best for: formal rooms, hotels, reception areas.
Modular squares. Easy to install and replace one tile at a time, which makes them ideal where spills or wear are concentrated in one area.
Best for: offices, playrooms, basements, retail.
Wool is naturally resilient, flame-resistant and ages beautifully, but costs more and needs wool-safe care. Nylon is the toughest synthetic and cleans well. Polyester is soft and colourful but crushes faster in walkways. Polypropylene is budget-friendly and stain-resistant but attracts oily soil.
The fitting day
01
Furniture is moved, the old carpet and underlay are cut into manageable strips, rolled, taped and taken away for disposal.
02
Old staples and gripper come out, the subfloor is swept and levelled, new gripper goes in and the carpet is cut to the seam plan.
03
Underlay is laid, the carpet is power-stretched onto the gripper, edges are tucked, door bars fitted and the room vacuumed clean.
Underneath it all
A good carpet on poor underlay wears out fast. Underlay absorbs the impact of every step, insulates the room and helps the pile recover. We match its density to the room: firmer underlay for stairs and busy hallways, softer and thicker for bedrooms.
Fitting is the other half. Carpet that is only knee-kicked into place loosens and ripples within a year or two. We power-stretch every room larger than a small bedroom, plan seams away from doorways and light sources, and finish stairs with tight, square nosings.
Before we arrive
A little preparation keeps the day short and the result neat. We’ll confirm everything again the day before.
Installation FAQ
Most single rooms are finished in a few hours. A typical apartment with three or four rooms is usually completed in one day. Stairs add a little extra time.
Either. We can supply carpet and underlay from our samples, or fit carpet you have already bought — we will check it is suitable for the room first.
Yes. Removal and disposal of old carpet, underlay and gripper is included in every installation quote.
Sometimes. If the new carpet and underlay are thicker than the old floor, doors may need a small trim so they swing freely. We check this at the measuring visit.
Straight away. New carpet can be walked on and furnished immediately after fitting.
